Protected landscape area Slavkov Forest is situated among Carlsbad, Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad), Kynperk and Javorná. It was established in 1974 on the area of 640 sq. km and it should protect mineral springs in the bath triangle Carlsbad - Mariánské Lázně - Frantikovy Lázně. They came into being in connection with fading volcanic activity from the Tertiary. It is a unique landscape area with large forests and peat bogs, and various fauna and flora. In Tertiary, isolated volcanoes emerged (Komorní Hůrka, Angel Rock, Uhelný vrch). Discharges of gas and mineral place occur till present days, area of warm or hot mineral springs surrounds Carlsbad.
