| | Jaroměř – You can visit St.Nicolas church, bell tower, or admire the work of Matyáš Braun which can be seen on the Marian Column on the square and in the cemetery where you can find the tomb of Anna Miseliusová with a statue of a crying woman in life size. | | | Velichovky – Ruin of Rotemberk castle is located near Velichovky if you follow the cyclist track number 4252 towards Smiřice. Rotemberk was a castle from 13th century. Today only a few pieces of the walls are visible. | | | Kuks Hospital building the construction of which was started in 17th century by the count František Antonín Špork who wanted to build a spa complex on one side of the Elbe river and a hospital for elderly veterans on the other. The hospital building was finished in 1720 but never fulfilled its purpose. After Špork’s death it was used by the order of St.Jan z Boha. The monks left the monastery in 1938 and since 1942 it was a county reformatory. In 1957 the reconstruction of the rare baroque apotheke was finished. In the 60s the roofs and attics were reconstructed as well. In 1995 the Kuks hospital was called a national cultural monument. There is an exposition of the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum and you can also visit the count’s tomb and monumental statues by Matyáš Bernard Braun. The Braun nativity scene, which is a compilation of sandstone statues, can be seen about 3km from Kuks. |
